The investigation reportedly focuses on how over $300 million flowed through the American financial system and whether any transactions may have violated U.S. law.
We should remember that, in December 2025, Argentine authorities raided AFA’s headquarters in Buenos Aires and over 30 professional soccer clubs. Buenos Aires Times reported that these raids were part of a massive investigation into alleged tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering involving more than $500 million.
This news does come at an unfortunate time, as their last match against Egypt has come under intense speculation over allegations that it was rigged.
